SUDAN GOVERNMENT TORTURES AHMED HASSAN AHMED AND ABD EL-
RAHEEM BAGADI
Fri, July 27, 2001
From SHRO-Cairo
Urgent action
Since July 2, 2001, Ahmed Hassan Ahmed and Abd El-Raheem Bagadi
(65) have
been unlawfully detained in appalling conditions at a Ghost House in Kosti.
According to SHRO-Cairo documented material the notorious Ghost House
of the
White Nile Province was repeatedly used by security forces to torture
and
kill political opponents of the NIF rule since June 30, 1989 throughout
the
1990s. It is a crime against humanity that the Government of Sudan continues
to silence political opponents by Ghost House tortures.
Ahmed and Bagadi have been suffering ongoing tortures
for political reasons
since they were arrested and detained on July the 2nd up to this day.
As a
result of continuous tortures, Ahmed and Bagadi became seriously ill.
Ahmed
is now suffering severe wounds and broken bones and cannot breath well.
Bagadi is additionally suffering as an aged person. There is real fear
for
the life of these innocent citizens.
The Sudan Human Rights Organization Cairo Branch condemns
in the strongest
terms the atrocious acts of the Government of Sudan as gross human rights
violations of the Sudanese laws as well as international human rights
norms.
SHRO-Cairo asks the government to issue immediate unconditional
release of
the Sudanese citizens Ahmed Hassan Ahmed and Abdel-Rahim Bagadi from the
Kosti Ghost House, provide full medical attention, prosecute the security
officers who tortured them, and stop all acts of crimes against humanity
as
required by law.
